STATE HALF MARATHON CHAMPIONS LEAD STRONG TASMANIAN TEAM FOR AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Selectors have named one of the strongest teams in a number of years to represent Tasmania in the Australian Half Marathon Championships, to be held in conjunction with the Gold Coast Half Marathon on Sunday 3 July.
Tasmanian Champions over the distance from the Cadbury Half Marathon, held in January, David THOMAS and Ruth WILSON lead the team, with both having extensive experience as Tasmanian representatives over recent years, with WILSON taking the Silver medal in the Australian Marathon Championships last September.
Current Point to Pinnacle Champion Dylan EVANS will run his first flat half marathon in an attempt to not only bring medals home to Tasmanian, but also to attempt to qualify for the World University Games, while Josh HARRIS will drop back in distance from his recent marathon. Dejen GEBRESELASSIE, Alex HUMPHREY and Daniel CLARKE also have past experience as Tasmanian representatives to round out a strong male team, while Francesca SMITH and Simone FITZGERALD also bring past Tasmanian experience over various distances to round out the female team. Josh DURNO will also compete as a reserve in an event which normally has a large number of Tasmanians travelling up to compete over the Marathon Festival.
