Athletics Tasmania is proud to announce that one of the strongest teams in a number of years will represent the state in the upcoming Australian Marathon Championships, held in conjunction with the Gold Coast Half Marathon this Sunday, July 3rd.
Tasmanian champions from the Cadbury Half Marathon in January, David THOMAS and Ruth WILSON, lead the Tasmanian contingent – both having extensive experience and success representing the state. WILSON’s recent achievements include winning the Canberra Marathon in April, as well as second place in the Australian Marathon Championships last September.
Reigning Point To Pinnacle Champion Dylan EVANS will contest his first flat half marathon in an attempt to not only return home with a medal, however also qualify for the World University Games. Following his recent marathon endeavours, fellow Launceston runner Josh HARRIS will drop back in distance, joining Dejen GEBRESELASSIE, Alex HUMPHREY and Daniel CLARKE who add further depth to a strong male field.
Francesca SMITH and Simone FITZGERALD also bring a wealth of experience over various distances to the female team. Fellow Tasmanian Josh DURNO will compete as a reserve in the male event that will feature a large Tasmanian presence not only in the half marathon, but also the marathon and 10km events.
