Athletics Tasmania Road Walk Championships (Long Course) Results

Very mild conditions greeted our Walkers for the Athletics Tasmania Road Walk Championships at Seven Mile Beach on Saturday.
In the day's first event, the O/40 10km were two of our Walking stalwarts, Ron Foster and Wayne Fletcher. Ron built an unassailable lead by the six-kilometre mark to add another State Title to his trophy cabinet. 

Our younger age groups did themselves proud. Many of them walked much longer distances than they usually competed at and did PB's across their respective race splits.

In the 2km Events, Macy Devine, for her U/12 event, put in a solid performance to lead the rest of the 2km field home. Macy averaged just under 6 minutes per kilometre pace and is well on the way to faster times.

The Gold in the U/11 Boys race was a tight tussle between Max Kull and Mitchell Hall. With 500m to go, it was anybody's race. At the finish line, Max took home the Gold by a mere second.

Amelia Watson took out the U/11 Girls 2km event and impressed coaches and Walk Judges with her stylish Walking.
The Girls U/14 3km pitted Kingborough Little Athletics Club teammates Emily Kull and Lily Carr against each other. There was not much in it at the halfway mark, but Emily surged ahead in the 2nd half of the race for a solid win.

The U/16 5km saw Samuel Lindsay take off at a cracking pace, was rewarded with PB's for 1.5km (7:17) and 3km (15:13) and fell one second short of a PB for the 5km, a solid performance from an excellent young walker.

In the U/16 5km for Women, Hannah Kull's performance was the bravest of the day. In her first 5km, Hannah was in significant discomfort with 2k to go but gritted her teeth and kept going. Those of us looking on never doubted she would finish – Well done, Hannah!
